ANNUAL CHRISTMAS 2013/NEW YEAR MEAL 2014

An enjoyable time was had by all who attended the annual Christmas dinner in January! Fiona booked us a large space at Jimmy's restaurant on Friday January 3rd 2014. The arrangements at Jimmy's meant that we could help ourselves to as much or as little food in each of the three courses at a pace that suited us. Some people were seen to eat sensibly whilst others …..

The hard core members went off to the pub for further refreshments, some not leaving until midnight!

Whitstable trip 2012

Over the last few years the club has organised a summer day trip to Whitstable to coincide with the well-known annual Oyster Festival. On a cool, but dry Saturday morning in July a group of club members set off in a packed mini-bus for Whitstable and soon ran into a shower of rain on the M25. But luck was with us as once the shower stopped the sun came out in style to greet us as we drove into Whitstable and to Eliza's mum's home on the sea front. For those of you who don't know, Eliza is one of our trainers who is taking a longish maternity break.

As has happened in the past, Eliza's mum opened up her sea-front house to us all where the mini-bus group met up with other club members who travelled independently. After a full lunch in a local restaurant all had a chance to wander around the myriad of oyster stores, displays and other curios around the harbour in hot sunshine before gathering at the Old Neptune seaside pub for refreshments and a quick meeting about club matters. The day was superbly rounded off by Eliza's mum providing us with a great meal seated outside in the evening sunshine, made even rosier by a glass or two of wine.

The hospitality shown by Eliza's mum was exceptional and made a good day unforgettable.

Annual General Meeting 2012

In May 2012 a well-attended meeting was held at Merton Hall. Club members gave many useful suggestions to the committee on increasing membership and different ideas on increasing funding and keeping the club solvent, despite the difficult financial climate. The impending reduction in size of the community centre and changes in the use of existing buildings along with car parking were major topics of discussion.
